LCD TV has little impact on the environment

Less than an inch at its thinnest point, the XS1, with screen sizes of either 65 or 52 inches, uses new technologies to work with Sharp's environmental goal of a zero global warming impact by 2010 through three different programs.
The XS1 uses a new program called Area Active Technology to reduce brightness levels on the screen.
Traditional televisions and LCD TVs light screens from a constant source of fluorescent tubing and in order to create a dark image parts of the tubing would have to be blocked.
The new TV from Sharp lights its screen with individual LED lights, which saves energy as specific lights can be turned off as opposed to blocked.
The XS1 saves energy and improves picture quality through Sharp's optical picture control program which allows the screen to automatically adjust its brightness based on the lighting available in the room.
